Diane De La Haye was born in Montreal but raised in Jamaica, home to Usain Bolt, Bob Marley, Blue Mountain Coffee and Rum! This makes her potentially capable of running very fast to the sounds of reggae music after downing a spiked cup of joe.
Despite growing up in a time when there was only one channel on the family’s black and white television (and tweeting was only for birds), Diane fell in love with movies, celebrities and all things Hollywood. Locked away in her small bedroom (to escape her rowdy brothers), Diane’s love of the written word transcended from books and crossword puzzles to poetry and creative writing.
So after a 15 years in the corporate world, a divorce and mid-life crisis, she left the sun, sand and sea to return to Canada and pursue a career in Screenwriting and Entertainment. A decade later, she’s now wondering if a boy-toy and red sports car would have been easier.
A graduate of the Vancouver Film School’s “Writing for Film and TV” Diploma program, Diane has honed her skills in Script Development and collaborated with Directors from around the world on Feature screenplays, documentaries and TV series. Her favourite pieces of original work include the Sketch Comedy: Who Let the Dogs Out?, the Christmas musical Movie-of-the-Week: Steppin’ on Holly Mistle’s Toe and a Christian Feature: The Proverbial Fit, loosely based on Diane’s stint as a Fit Model.
She is Head Writer of the St Maarten-based Feature films “The Wonderful Counsellor, Parts 1, 2 and 3” as well as “Fab 4 and the Silent Retreat,” (on which she also serves as Co-Executive Producer and helped garner its 3 international Film Festival awards.) “Fab 4 and the Silent Retreat” won Conch Shell International Film Fest 2022 Best Web Series Award and Best Caribbean Film at the Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival 2022.
Diane is a Programmer with the 2026 edition of Conch Shell International Film Festivals. She is also a Panelist representing the film and distribution company, Renderyard, where she serves as Administrative and Marketing Director.
Diane has judged scripts for ACTRA Toronto Women of Color and Black Screen Office competitions and is currently a Partner with the Media Business Institute, MBI Productions and All-in-Media Group
Diane is a Script Doctor and Screenwriting professional with excellent written and communication skills, adept at taking raw human experiences and creatively transforming them into heartwarming, powerful stories for the small and big screen in a coherent, emotive, thoughtful and humorous fashion.
Using her own personal life story, educational background and a career in six industries spanning four countries, Diane uses this experience as the basis and inspiration for her dramatic and comedic scripts.
